Once again it's time for the monthly book post with Steph and Jana. I have three to share this month.
First up, 2 Ways Your Phone is Changing You by Tony Reinke.
A few months ago I downloaded an app that shows the amount of time I spend on my phone each day. Holy cow. Talk about an eye opener. Around the same time I noticed a lot of people recommend this book, so I added my name to the waiting list at the library. It made me think about what I share on social media, why I share it, and what I consume and why. I deactivated my Facebook for a few weeks after I read it and didn't miss it a bit. I reactivated it last week and noticed that I'm spending more time on my phone in general when I have Facebook on there. It's like I waste time on Facebook, then go from app to app just wasting more time. When Facebook isn't on there, I'm not as tempted to mindlessly scroll from app to app and spend a lot less time on my phone overall.
So, I'll be deactivating it again this week I think!
For a total change of pace, next I read And Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer by Fredrik Backman.
This was a short novella, and I read it in one sitting. It's about an aging grandfather, and his connections to his son and grandson and memories of his wife. It's sweet and nostalgic and a little emotional. I really enjoyed it.
Last up was Sisters First: Stories from Our Wild and Wonderful Life by Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Pierce Bush.
I love the Bush family so I had high hopes for this book, and it didn't disappoint. Barbara and Jenna shared so many stories, hilarious and touching and unexpected. I laughed out loud several times and would highly recommend it.
I've been on the wait list at the library forever for Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine and it came in on Friday. I'm about sixty pages in and so far, I'm loving it!
What did you read this month? Anything I need to add to my list?

I read the Rebel of the Sands trilogy (by Alwyn Hamilton) recently. The author's continuous use of the word "And" at the beginning of sentences grated on me after awhile, but they were decently well-written and definitely a good story.
I also liked "Tattoos on the Heart," by Gregory Boyle, a priest who has spent the last 25 years living and working with gang members and their families in the L.A. projects.
The Sisters First book looks so cute - I didn't even know they had a book out!
That makes me happy the Bush sisters book is good - I just love that family.
Think I need to add EVERY book to my list. I'm struggling with being on my phone so much, but I'm trying to amp up interaction to build my client base. But sometimes I'm like girl bye!
I found the Backman book to be sweet and nostalgic and emotional, too.
12 Ways Your Phone is Changing You sounds like an interesting read. I've heard other people say it made them think a little harder about their phone usage, too.
The twins book is on my library request list. I'm posting my books tomorrow from April. I can say I recommend accidental heroes by Danielle steel. Soo good!
The 12 Ways your phone is changing you is on my list - but part of me is like wait I like my phone? haha. I know I spend too much time scrolling FB/instagram some evenings but I kind of consider it to be a mental break. I am still super curious to read it though!!!
I loved that Backman novella and adore his writing in general, as you probably know. :) I'm not quiet about it. haha.
Glad to hear you are enjoying Eleanor Oliphant!!
My aunt sent me a copy of Sisters First after our girls were born so I’m glad that it’s a good read! Hopefully I’ll be able to pick it up soon!
What app do you use to track your phone usage? I’m really interested in the 12 ways your phone is changing you book. I’m definitely going to give it a read! I just read moloka’i by Alan brennert about a girl living in a leper colony in Hawaii. It was heavy and took me forever to get through, but it was good! This morning I finished simon vs the homo sapien agenda and it was a much quicker read. I’d recommend both!
So I took FB off of my phone for a few days and noticed I wasn't on my phone much at all. Go on, add something to instagram, get off.
I put FB back on because I was selling a few things and noticed I was on more and doing the same thing - even when I shut that down I was more likely to go to different apps in search of I don't even know what. So it's off again until I add more than three things to an online yard sale at a time.
It's nuts.
Taking FB off my phone was one of the best things I did. I had to put it back on during my daughter's competition season but now that it's over, it's coming right back off.
I feel like I need to read all of these books - especially the first! I spend so much time on my phone for work that I really try to minimise how much I use it away from work
I have the Fredrik Backman novella next on my TBR from the library and I've heard good things about it, glad you enjoyed it!
Interesting thoughts on how the phone is changing you. I'm definitely intrigued. I feel like I'll also appreciate the Bush sisters book. I used to love to read biographies by Christopher Andersen (including his book on George and Laura), so that fits right into the books I enjoyed the most. I really need to start reading more...
