For the last few years, Matt has been talking about getting a fig tree to add to the "orchard" portion of our backyard, which consists of a plum tree and a peach tree. We think. We haven't actually gotten any fruit from either tree yet.
Anyway, he has been researching online for a while, and finally bit the bullet and placed an order last week. It cost $50.00, which seemed a little pricey to me but he selected the two gallon tub and predicated that it would already be about four or five feet high, so we could plant it this spring and have figs by fall.
Matt anticipated the delivery all week, and today, it arrived.
Please prepare yourself for the new addition to the orchard.
I laugh every time I look at it. I'm calling it the fig twig.
On the plus side, we won't have to worry about pruning it for a while.

#figtwig. Perhaps this is to teach you patience (if renovating hasn't accomplished that yet).
My mother has had a fig tree for years, and she has gotten some figs! It slows things down though that we have to take it inside each winter. It doesn't take kindly to being moved (the leaves fall off every time we move it.) All the best with your "fig twig!"
You should start a few more from cuttings - less pricey and will prob bear fruit around the same time as your fig twig!
I laughed out loud when I saw the cute little twig! Give it time, it'll grow! :)
Oh my gosh, I'm dying! Hahahaha! I mean... someday I'm sure it will be beautiful & fruitful. Ha!
Hahahaha! Hopefully it grows quickly. Maybe give it some fertilizer. I actually have a fig tree, and last year was the first year I got a decent amount of figs. It was great! You have a lot to look forward to.
Haha! We had a fig tree at our old house. It was kinda cool, when the birds didn't get the figs before we did!
LOLOL oh no. My mom has a fig tree in her backyard that gives her one fig a week. And it's about 6 feet tall. Not sure that's the most helpful... maybe you guys should order a pallet-full :)
When you watch that thing grow - you're gonna feel like such a proud momma!
Hahahaha I saw this in your stories and I have to laugh again. Fig twig. Just think how much more special it will be when it turns in to an actual fig producing tree. Hopefully. :)
Lol, this is hilarious! We have a quince tree in our yard and I have no idea what to do with it. These things seem like a good idea in theory...
Waaaait. The fig twig cost you $50?!???? I’d be so peeved haha
Haha. I love this. I wish I could grow a fig tree, but mine would look like that as well.
Haha that's great!! Here's to hoping it turns into something amazing!
