Well it's time to link up with Steph and Jana and share the books we've been reading! I'm back in my reading groove and have six books to share this month. I've been sharing my books as I read them over on Instagram too!
First up is Rose Harbor in Bloom by Debbie Macomber. This won't win the Nobel Prize, but give me a story about a woman who runs an inn in a town called Cedar Cove, a couple of quirky friends, a few romantic dilemmas and I'm a happy camper. It was a quick, easy read. You can't go wrong with Debbie Macomber.
Next I read All The Summer Girls by Meg Donohue. I chose this because it's about a girl from Philadelphia who takes a trip to the Jersey shore with some old friends, and I live in Philadelphia and grew up going to the Jersey shore. I love books that are set in places I am familiar with. I'll be honest, that's about all this book had going for it. It was your typical book about three friends who meet up at the beach after several years apart and they have turned into different people and secrets are uncovered but their bond of friendship is strengthened. But it was nice to read about summer at the beach in the middle of yet another snowstorm.
Several weeks ago my mom suggested Need to Know, and it was finally my turn on the waiting list at the library. I read the whole book in two days. It's going to be a series and a movie, and I could not be more thrilled. I highly recommend it. Here's a summary: The last thing that CIA analyst Vivian Miller expects to see when she finally accesses the files of a suspected Russian sleeper cell is the face of someone close to her. Someone she thought she could trust with her four children. Someone whose exposure as a Russian spy will destroy her hard-fought career. Miller panics and deletes the file. She knows she's only delayed the inevitable exposure…unless she can use her skills to extract herself and her family.
After that I read My Story by Elizabeth Smart. I cannot say enough about this book. It was very difficult to read because it details the circumstances of the kidnapping and everything Elizabeth Smart endured for the next several months, but the strength that she had to survive that torture, and the perspective that she had then and now is really unbelievable. She is incredible.
One of Us is Lying was up next. It's pretty popular right now, but in case you haven't heard about it:
Pay close attention and you might solve this.
On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.
Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.
Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.
Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.
And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High’s notorious gossip app.
Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention Simon's dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn’t an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he’d planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who’s still on the loose?
Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.
The chapters are short it sucked me in immediately, and I kept telling myself "Just one more quick chapter" and before I knew it, I had been reading for another hour. I was a little bit bummed with the ending when I read it, but the more I think about it, the more I think it's not because the ending was bad, but because I was mad I didn't solve it. I was CONVINCED I had the whole thing figured out and it turned out I was totally off base! I won't be quitting my job to become a detective.
The last book I read was Unplanned, which is the story of a woman who was a director of a Planned Parenthood clinic and became pro-life. I know there are many different opinions on this topic, but in the beginning, Abby writes about how it's important to read about people who believe in things you believe in, and people who believe differently. It was really interesting to me to learn how she got involved with Planned Parenthood in college, and how her beliefs changed slightly overtime until she ultimately quit after moving pretty high up in the company and spending a large chunk of her career there. It was a compelling read.
So that's it for this month. Right now I'm reading Talking as Fast as I Can by Lauren Graham, and have several I'm excited about lined up after that. I read most of the books this month under a blanket in front of the fire, but I'm optimistic that next month, most of my books will be read in the hammock!
Did you read anything great this month?

Need to Know sounds really intriguing.
I guessed the ending of One of Us Is Lying but then I totally second-guessed myself and thought there was no way it could be that!
I want to get my hands on Need to Know but I’m still on the waitlist at the library. Hopefully soon! One of us is lying sounds like a dark version of the breakfast club, so I’m in.
One of Us Is Lying sounds good! I haven't read any of these.
I’m not usually one for nonfiction books but Unplanned and Elizabeth Smart’s books both sound really interesting! I’ve had One Of Us Is Lying on my list for a while and I need to actually read it!
That Planned Parenthood books sounds interesting!!!! It really is about reading things you agree AND disagree with.
I heard the audio version of Elizabeth Smart & it stuck with me so powerfully!!!
Have you seen the 2 part series that Elizabeth Smart did (it was either on Lifetime, I think). She told her story and it was heartbreaking, but she did such a good job. I also recorded the Lifetime movie that they made about her story, but after watching her documentary, I don't know if I can watch another version.
One of Us is Lying is my next book on the stack! I can't wait!!
Glad you enjoyed most of these! You had a great month for reading!!
I really want to read One of Us Is Lying, so I'm really happy to hear that you enjoyed it! I'm ready for the weather to cooperate so I can do more reading outside.

lol i won't be quitting my job to become a detective either, i'd be horrible at it. i really liked one of us is lying! i've never read a Debbie Macomber book but i have several on my shelves at home, so one day!
Maybe I should quit my job and become a detective then, because I figured out One of Us Is Lying half way through !! but I have read a lot of thrillers, and my mind suspects everyone!!
I want to check out the Elizabeth Smart story.
I definitely want to read Need to Know - your thoughts on Instagram talked me into it for sure!! I don't think I could ever be a detective either - my thoughts are always way off. One of us is Lying sounds so good though...I should pick it up sometime.
I figured out One of Us Is Lying pretty quickly but it didn't stop me from enjoying it at all.
I stayed up late to finish One of Us is Lying. Totally get the sucked in feeling.
I cannot freaking imagine being Elizabeth Smart.
I read another shore book a while back and it was TERRIBLE. I am actually going to read one this summer that is set in OCNJ. I will let you know if it's worth it!
One of Us is Lying is on my TBR, glad to hear you liked it. I read Elizabeth Smart's book and it really was hard to read at times, but I was so glad I got through it. Unplanned sounds interesting, I will have to add it to my list for when I am in the mood for non fiction. And Debbie Macomber is one of my favorite beach reads!
I really want to read One of Us is Lying and Elizabeth Smart's book after reading your reviews! I am also interested in Unplanned. I strongly believe in a woman's right to choose but I would be really interested to hear her story and what made her change her beliefs. Like she says, it's important to not only read things that we know we will agree with. I hadn't heard of this book so thanks for sharing!!
I'm currently reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and very much like it so far!
I like your reviews. I will reserve Need to Know, and Unplanned, for sure. I just finished a non-fiction book, Awaking the Spirit, by Andrew Schuman. It is about the power of music to heal people who are very ill, especially those in ICU with comas. I found it fascinating, even though I didn't care for his favorite piece of music (the one that brought healing to him when he was near death). I listened to it on youtube and thought, WHAT?
I read the first book in the Rose Harbor series but haven't continued with it. I like Debbie Macomber's books. So many of these books sound good! I have to give One of Us Is LYing another try!
I like your take on One of Us is Lying for I've recently added it to my TBR. The premise seems very intriguing.
I would be interested in One of Us is Lying. It seemed to be pretty popular in last month's link up.
Ooh I definitely need to read One Of Us Is Lying. The Elizabeth Smart book sounds like another one I might check out. Thanks for sharing all your reads!
I've had Elizabeth Smart's book on my to-read list since I heard about it, because her kidnapping was one of the first big stories I remember vividly growing up. To know all she went through and to come out the other side this strong young woman who is doing remarkably great work... I can only imagine how powerful reading her story is.
I soooo want to read one of us is lying. I have heard good things about it. I also want to read Elizabeth Smart's book. That story hits close to home as Jaycee Dugard was kidnapped in Tahoe.
I love your mix of books, you have a little bit of everything here! I'm adding One of Us Is Lying and the Elizabeth Smart book to my list!
Need To Know sounds so good! Adding it to my TBR list :)
So many interesting books! Elizabeth’s story would be so interesting to read.
I’ve read a few so-so books this month but I finished The French Girl and really enjoyed it!
Wow, I didn't know Need to Know was going to be a movie/series! It will be so good. I also like the Elizabeth Smart book.
Hmm looking into Need to Know! :) I love Debbie Macomber for a good fluffy read. I haven't read Rose Harbor (series) yet, but want to. I have been let down by a few of her books, but not many overall. :) Xo - Alexandra
