Sometimes I have lots of ideas about clever ways to tell a story.
And other times I have a lousy week at work and spend the weekend not using any brain power and just being thankful for the good stuff. That was this weekend. To start, the weather was absolutely amazing. I was pretty much inside only to sleep.
Other good stuff from the weekend:
I got home on Friday after work and was in my pajamas before 5. Matt came home from work and took both front wheels off of his truck, replaced the shocks and struts, and grilled dinner.
I painted my nails and read half a new book.
---------------
Annie's birthday party was on Saturday. It seems like just yesterday she was a teeny tiny little peanut fresh from the NICU.

And now she's three!

I was re-reading the blog post I wrote about when she was born, and it's so funny to me how excited I was, and we didn't even know who she was or who she would be And now she's this little person who has thoughts and opinions and says funny things.
We got her a bathrobe and Lincoln Logs for her birthday. My sister-in-law told me that she needed a new robe, but I didn't expect her to love it like she did. It's pink zebra, and as someone who wanted to wear leopard print shoes to her wedding, I guess loving an animal print is in her genes.

When Matt and I got home from the party, we decided to buy a fire pit. We had a chiminea our first summer in this house, but it cracked and we had to get rid of it. Last year we really missed sitting out by the fire, so we got a new one and literally fired it up Saturday night. It was cool enough to wear a sweatshirt and we sat out there for a few hours, just relaxing and listening to music.

Just kidding, we listened to the local police scanner. At one point we actually HEARD A CAR ACCIDENT in the distance and then listened along to all of the first responders on the scanner. It was fascinating.

Note the sleeve of Ritz crackers on the grass that we brought out with us in case we needed a snack.
I'm not even going to talk about the part where a skunk walked by.
---------------
This afternoon I went for a hike. I felt more relaxed with every step.
I would have stayed there forever, but I knew I had to come home and finish laundry and make dinner. And when I walked in the door, Matt was in the kitchen cooking away.

---------------
Also, my mother-in-law was getting rid of this crate with old milk bottles and she asked if I wanted it before she threw it out. OF COURSE I DID! I'm not sure where I'm going to put it yet, but I think it's so cool, especially because four of the six bottles are from Pennsylvania. One is even from the town where Matt went to college!

---------------
And now it's Sunday night, and we just decided to book a three day camping trip in September, but I am going to take the entire week off work. I love having something to look forward to!

Ahhh. I could feel the unwinding happening as I was reading along and looking at the pictures. Hooray for a weekend that does what a weekend is supposed to do--relax you. I hope you have a better week at work this week.
Oh how cute is little Annie?! You nailed the third birthday present!
Unfortunately for my friends and family, I have a knack for buying gifts for littles that they don’t want to part with.... ever...
For one friend’s daughter it was a GIANT “life size” ballerina plush doll that was carried everywhere for 6 months (and buckled into the car, tucked into bed, you name it), another was a frozen pyjama nightgown that was worn so much both at night and during the day that it ended up being what she wore for her preschool school photos (though I reassured them it will be a funny memory in the future) and for another it was a pair of swimming goggles that became a permanent fashion accessory... even at church, because you can only see the gospel clearly through pink my little pony goggles
Annie is a doll!!! Look at hubs cooking up the grub!! LOVE your fire pit and cozy book reading time!
I can't believe it was cool enough there in July to wear a sweatshirt outside!! I wouldn't know what to do with myself! And how lucky are you that Matt cooks. I wouldn't know what to do with myself for that either!
I'm with Lindsay - I cannot believe it was chilly enough to wear a sweatshirt! Here we hide away all of our winter clothes until December
Annie is so cute! I love the milk crate and the hiking photos!
That fire pit is a great addition to your backyard!! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
Love the hike, the new kitchen, and all the de-stressing that took place here. :) Hooray for a camping trip to look forward to, and a week off of work!
We love our backyard fire pit...we just need to use it more!
Sounds like a really great weekend! The hike pictures are beautiful! I love sitting outside around a fire :) We did that Friday night with my parents :) No police scanner, though... lol!
There is just something relaxing sitting by a fire.... & having Ritz crackers.
That little robe. So cute. It is funny to see personalities come to life & to know you loved them even before you saw how awesome these babies would become
Weekend perfection right here.
Love the pics from your hike. I totally would have taken the milk carton too. That's awesome.
Your kitchen is gorgeous! Sounds like a fun weekend celebrating sweet Annie, spending time with the hubs, and going for a hike on Sunday. Florida is too flat to have good hiking trails. Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis
I love everything about your house! Little Annie is so adorable!
I love the fire pit! I'm anxious to put one in our yard. The police scanner cracks me up!
Annie is so so cute. I'd love to have her and my AB together.
Those bottles are so cute. I've almost bought similar bottles so many times but I chicken out at the price tag!
This looks like such a great weekend. Annie is so cute! I think it would be fun to listen to the police scanner, lol! Those old milk jugs are cute. Where did Matt go to school?
