can't play a playa. or a girl in the midst of a fitbit challenge

Well, here it is on Friday and I didn't write one blog post all week.  Work was crazier than it's been in months and one night I even came home and sat down on the bed to take my shoes off and woke up an hour and a half later.
Apparently, I was exhausted.

Tonight I was so looking forward to a relaxing Friday night, and then our dishwasher died.  So that's fun.  Matt looked up the serial number to see if we could find a replacement part, and he said, "This dishwasher is from 2002! It's almost as old as I am!"

Well, not quite.  We're older than we used to be.

It's also been eight thousand degrees around here the last few days.  Our kitchen has a fancy and super modern thermometer and this is what it said last night.

Our 1980's air conditioner has met its match this week.

I walked into the kitchen at one point and Matt was standing in front of the open freezer.

Speaking of walking, Matt got a Fitbit on Prime Day, and I'm not sure our relationship will ever be the same.

The Fitbit arrived on Tuesday night and on Wednesday morning I checked my phone after a meeting and had invitations to a Daily Showdown, Weekend Warrior, Goal Day Challenge, about 500 taunts, and a text that said, "Oh golly, I think I'll go for a mid-morning stroll."

Since he's my husband, we're usually a team.  One the same side.  But both of us having Fitbits has introduced a whole new dynamic to our relationship.

While Matt's job might allow him to take a mid-day stroll, mine isn't always so flexible. so I look forward to going on a walk almost every single night.  It is my favorite time of the day, no matter the temperature.  I'm happy for Matt to go with me, but I really love going alone.  I listen to my music or a podcast and watch the sun set and don't have to talk to anyone for 45 whole minutes and as someone who is 100 percent introverted, this makes my whole day.

I was determined to win the Daily Challenge at least once this week so I braved the heat, wandered the neighborhood, and took in a beautiful sunset.

When I got home, Matt was in the kitchen, sneakers laced up, walking laps around our gigantic kitchen.

As someone who was forced to work from home every day last winter, I know for a fact that round trip, front door to kitchen island, is sixty steps.  I actually said to Matt, "CAN'T PLAY A PLAYA."

I just hope Fitbit counts dish washing, because I'm going to be doing a lot of that in the coming weeks.

Oh my! I couldn't handle the heat on the inside and the outside! We don't have a dish washer yet. Hoping to rectify that in a couple of months and we have window unit ACs. It terrifies me that one might kick the bucket in this heat! Hope you get some relief soon and I'm pretty sure Matt doesn't stand a chance against you! :)

I am the same way with my evening walks! I practically crave them. I didn't get my fix this week since James worked late and I'm all out of whack. I still can't get over the heat in your house. The first thing I would've done once the temp hit 80 would be to sell everything I have to buy some central air. You're a true hero.

Fitbits definitely cause competition among friends and couples...the good thing is it just makes you more motivated to win! Hope you get the dishwasher fixed soon. The weather has been dreadfully hot here as well. Enjoy the weekend! Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis

Oh no, hope you can get the dishwasher fixed!

I had a giggle at the fitbit rivalry between you two too, how cute! It's good you will be encouraging and motivating each other to stay healthy that way! :)

Hope you are having an awesome weekend and things get less hectic for you soon.

Things are about to get ugly - kick his @$$!

It was so hot last week. I'm so happy it is cooling down this week.

Hahaha, love how seriously Matt is taking this. Just don't let him win, ever, haha.

I prefer to compete on the same team as my husband as opposed to against him, lol. Pretty much for these same reasons.
TOTAL bummer about the dish washer... Our first apartment didn't have one but now I'm super spoiled and that'd just wreck my weekend. Oof.
Your walks sound lovely!

Yesterday my fitbit didn't record my workout and I wondered if it still counted!

I love my fitbit. My coworkers and I have a competition who can get the most steps in a day. It makes the work day go by a little better. Although those who get stuck in meetings and/or hearing all day would disagree. hhaha

haha, I love it! I would get super competitive if I had a fitbit! You can get a mini stair stepper, and step while you're doing dishes! It's a good workout, plus you are killing two birds with one stone!

That HEAT!! I. Would. Die. I was just telling my mom the other day that I would give up my phone and internet before giving up my air conditioner. Honestly.

oh I can imagine getting super competitive with a Fitbit
Our dishwasher broke when i was 7 months pregnant and I had to hand wash everything till I gave birth. When we tried to have it replaced we found out that the old owner had so many layers of flooring we couldn't get a new one unless we ripped out some of the flooring to make room!
Good luck!

Hahaha I love the taunting you can do!! So funny! Good luck with your A/C - too bad the fitbit doesn't track sweat loss ;)

Nooo to the AC and dishwasher dying in the same week! What a bummer!

Jesse was totally competitive when he first got his fitbit - but then he realised he doesn't stand a chance at beating me so now he'll be like "I hit 10,000! DON'T YOU DARE tell me what you're on... don't kill my vibe"

Jenna said...

Oh boy! That sounds like it could get interesting. Since its all in good fun though its a great way to push each other fitness wise.

I'm guessing this was the week that UPenn had to cancel all their tours because "heat advisory"... that happens. Also... my husband always hits 10,000 way before I do... and it pisses me off to no end. I wish that my job would let me pace and talk on the phone the way his does. WE WORK IN THE SAME OFFICE AND HE STILL HITS IT HOURS BEFORE I DO. Most days I have to pace around the house to hit 10,000.

So yeah... that taunting is real. I feel you.

I love your fitbit challenge with your husband. Nothing like a little competition. I ask my husband what his step count is on the daily. I must beat hime. Ha.
