happy campers

Matt and I went camping this weekend.  We left Thursday morning and when Matt came to pick me up he asked, "Um--are you going to change your earrings before we go?"

The last time we went camping, Matt thought my earrings were a little over the top.  Apparently he felt the same way about my thumbnail sized faux diamond studs.  I CAN'T IMAGINE WHY.

I decided that wasn't the right moment to tell him that, along with those classy, elegant jewels, I had my pale pink hairdryer and an entire arsenal full of beauty products in my bag.

As we were walking out of my apartment, I asked Matt if he could run through a list of typically forgotten items just so I could double check myself and make sure I wasn't leaving anything behind.

"Sure," he said, "Did you pack your toothbrush?"

Guess what.  I hadn't packed my toothbrush.

I have an electric toothbrush that doesn't fit in one of those handy travel toothbrush containers, so I stuck a plastic baggie over the bristles, stuck it in the side pocket of my bag, and off we went.

I am very sad to report that my toothbrush fell out of my bag when I was putting it in the tent.

Right.  Into.  The.  Dirt.

That plastic baggie was no match for the dirt that it fell on BRISTLE-FIRST.  I picked it up and dusted it off, QUITE LITERALLY, and when it came time to brush my teeth before bedtime I just told myself that a dirty toothbrush was better than no toothbrush at all, which was a tough pill to swallow but WHAT CHOICE DID I HAVE?

And after I brushed my teeth with my questionable toothbrush, I embarked on my nightly skincare routine, which includes Clinique Take the Day Off makeup remover, Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit facial soap and cleansing cloths, some Pore Refining Cleanser, and moisturizer.  After I was finished with all that I sat next to Matt and we were chatting away.  A few minutes into our conversation he paused and said, "This is weird but I think I smell...oranges...?"

It was my face.

Thank you very much, pink grapefruit oil-free cleanser.

The weather didn't really cooperate for our trip but, despite the clouds and the rain, we still had fun!

Every girl needs glitz and glam while camping :)

Love that last pic- is always so pretty when the leaves are orange and yellow.

This made me laugh! I would completely freak out if I dropped my toothbrush in the dirt, I'm a bit weird about toothbrushes!

Love this exchange between you and Matt: "This is weird but I think I smell...oranges...?" ' Thank you very much, pink grapefruit oil-free cleanser.'

I laughed out loud :)

Yes your face, and also the scenery....geeze that's awesome!
I take WAY TOO MUCH whenever i go camping as well. My brother has been known to say "Amy, will you REALLY wear all 5 pairs of paints for the two days we will be there? Yes, brother, yes i will...and i will also change my earrings three times. ha.

This made me smile.
With my current job we take the kids to a festival once a year, its two nights only, but we camp. Last year my manager came with us and bought us all blow up mattresses because she refused to sleep on a camping mat and there we all were with our sleeping bags and she had a feather down duvet! Beautiful photos.

I was pregnant on our last camping experience. Let's just say I don't have the fondest of memories.

Such pretty pictures!
Dudes just don't understand the faux diamond earrings. It's like the most simple way to get dressed up. Even if you are in the woods..

you looked cute!

Oh goodness, this trip looks so dreamy and lovely! I want to pin it on Pinterest just for the images ha ha.
That is too funny, I am the opposite kind of camper. I am very prepared with all of my gear but I look like crap the whole time!

So pretty there! I love the smores photo, makes me crave some right now! And that toothbrush story is surely a horror story for me!

I haven't had smores in a loong time..and yours looks quite tasty!!

Good for you for still brushing your teeth btw lol :)

And, I see nothing wrong with wearing diamonds to go camping!!

Looks like you had a nice relaxing time together.

Clicked over from Amy's blog...Loved reading about your camping adventures! I scrolled down and looked at your pictures in the next post too. I'll be back for sure!

So, I have to ask, did the questionable toothbrush make out all right? I totally get your camping woes. I have been known to bring my fair share of "non-camping items" on camping trips. We may be in the woods living in tents but we don't have to look like we're FROM there. :)

I'm the smartass who would go and put on bigger earrings. Really. And a statement necklace. There should not be fashion rules when camping. Towards one extreme or the other.

My mom made me absolutely paranoid about bears when I was younger. She insists that bears have such a keen sense of smell, that you shouldn't use anything with perfume in it when you're camping. I would be terrified a bear was going to eat my face off. I have strange camping issues.

And I really want that S'More. There was a burn ban on the last time I went camping, and I had to settle for a moon pie.

Glad you still had fun despite the weather...the photos make it seem lovely...although, yep, a bit chilly.

Oh...I don't know how I would have handled my toothbrush falling in the dirt...if it was a few years ago, I wouldn't have cared. But I think I'm getting more OCD as I get older.
Looks like a beautiful place to go camping!! That picture of the lake is absolutely stunning!!

GingerPeachT said...

hahaha you are more brave than me to use that toothbrush! I would have just skipped it altogether
So did he not like your fruity facewash? lol I wear a lot of vanilla and my hubby has said to me "ohhh you smell like cotton candy!" he says its a good thing. So i'll go with it!
Pretty pics!!

Beautiful pictures!

I've been buying these little plastic disposable toothbrushes called Wisps...they're much easier to travel with or just keep in your purse.

This post made me laugh out loud! My first foray into camping went ... well ... similarly.

I have to say, after living in Colorado for a few years now, I think I'd be much better at the whole camping thing. I'd just rather not. ;)

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and leaving some love!
